About us
We publish a sourced public record of lithium battery, e-bike and e-scooter fires in England, Wales and Scotland, and explain how responsibility for them is worked out. Every figure we publish names its source on the same page.
What we do
We help people understand what the data actually says about battery fires, where the safety and regulatory picture currently stands, and how responsibility after a fire like theirs is usually established. We keep the record; we do not sensationalise it. Where the published evidence runs out, we say so and stop.
That is a narrower job than it sounds, and we prefer it that way. There is a great deal of confident writing about battery fires online, much of it recycling numbers nobody can trace. We would rather publish less and be right.
Who writes and reviews this
Our team writes to a house standard that favours named sources, dated figures, and plain acknowledgement of uncertainty over confident-sounding guesswork. We have not yet published named author and reviewer credentials, and until we do we make no claim about who wrote or reviewed any given page. Where a page states a figure or a regulatory position, we name the source for it on that same page.
How we source our work
Our sourcing rule is the same across the site: every factual or statistical claim must trace back to a named, checkable source on the same page — ideally a fire service, government department, or official regulator. Any figure we cannot attribute that way comes down rather than gets hedged.
Our UK lithium battery fire statistics tracker is the clearest example of that rule in practice. It separates London-specific data from UK-wide data, dates every figure, and states openly where we have withdrawn a number because we could not trace it to a primary source. That page sets the standard for the rest of the site.
What this site costs you
Nothing. Everything here is free to read, there is nothing to sign up to, and we run no advertising and no tracking. We have no commercial arrangement in place with any third party in connection with this site, and nothing you read here is sponsored. If that ever changes, we will say so plainly here and on our regulatory status page before it affects anything you read.
